The women of the Akha Hill Tribe are colorfully dressed and perhaps the most persistent vendors in Thailand. Although their homes are primarily in poor villages in the north, they may be found wherever there are tourists. They sell handicrafts, and are famous for wooden frogs which "croak" when stroked by a stick. Nina gave them a little encouragement in Tha Ton, and was immediately engaged in high-pressure bartering. She bought several little bags, trying to spread her business to all the women. |
